I'm sure you guys have answered this problem before by saying "rebuild". Well I just finished doing all 3 carb bodies(2-carbs per body) New needle and seats,new gaskets,new jets, new fuel. I had my engine rebuilt by a local merc mechanic about five years ago,#1 piston seized. He said it was a new powerhead but I think he just had the cylinder repaired because when I got it back the crank was bent. He ruined 2 stators before he figured that out. He also didn't check the carbs, they were jetted for above 5000'. .004 smaller on the main and .004 larger on the idle. The lake that I boat at is around 2500' so I installed .048 for my main and .060 for my idle. I'm amazed it still runs. It starts like a dream, Idles like a dream, Tops out at about 5400 rpm with a 19 pitch prop, boat is a 17 foot open bow. Hole shot is awsome after I get past the sluggish area, the boat almost leaves the water and usually cavitates if my trim is up. Could it be a timing issue that is causing the sluggishness or something to do with the bent crank? Maybe the advance? One mechanic told me my carbs had to be synchronized. Happy Independence Day
