Hi!

I just pulled out the block on my 25 HP Mariner (695 model, made by Yamaha) and I've found out that there have been some corrosion on the engineblock at the cooling channel next to one of the cylinders. A little bit of the head block is missing right next to the top cylinder.

Im wondering if this is possible to fix?
I've seen people use Techno weld next to outlets on motorbikes so Im thinking Techno Weld might be able to solve the problem?

I don't believe that it's possible to weld with a TIG, since its so close to the cyliner... And I will post a picture soon...

Is Techno Weld an epoxy product?

I have no experience with Techno Weld or a similar repair. However, if there's some track record with the stuff (cycle repairs, etc), with an '81 motor, what have you got to lose? Worst case, you scrounge around for another power head?

It's a way to soldering aluminum at 380 Celcius. Check out the link! really cool stuff!
Apparently it's possible to repair aluminum as long as the part you are repairing has an operating temp below 380 celcius.

Interesting. As one of the commenters noted, it's more of a brazing process than a welding process. Does look impressive, however, particularly the control the operator seems to have over the molten metal.

I'll defer to others on this site as to whether this product is suitable for your application or if other products might be better. My original comment still applies, however - what have you got to lose by trying something?

Well, your right, if it doesnt work it doesnt work.

However, here is some pictures... Im pretty sure this is a lost cause, but always great with a second opinion.

Any thoughts out there with what can be done?

I have no experience in this area (yet :) ) (fortunately :) ), even though my motor is an '82.

You might try also posting in the MarineEngine.com fourm at: Mercury Mariner Outboard Forum

I've also had some good feedback from the folks there.
