Friends,

I went out the other day and my outboard was not peeing water out in a steady stream. It was coming out, but not a straight shooter.

My other outbard is a 25 hp, that shoots water out like a steady rocket and this outboard (35 ho) wasn't getting it done.

What can I do, without taking it to the shop and being charged $100?

Your help will be very helpful, thank you so much!

Chunkin.

I would take it as a sign your water pump is getting weak and change your impeller. You never said your motor was overheating so best look into it before it does. Rick.

try cleaning out the tell tale out with a peice of wire, alot of the times they become plugged up especially by insects and by random debris blocking your water output. is there any signs of overheating? when was the last time you changed the impeller? it is recomended they are changed once every two years if you run in fairly clean waters or after every season if you run in water with alot of debris.

also the tale tell is only and indicator, that the water pump is pumping, not that the tstats are opening, and cooling the block.

Save the $100 at the shop for their labor and buy a factory manual with half of it. With the other half do as others have said, and replace the impeller at least, if not the entire water pump assembly (approx. $75). The manual only buy a factory service manual, they can be found on ebay for under $50 shipped. If you do replace the water pump and/or impeller and it still isn't getting the job done, use the manual for a reference on how to check the t-stat.

Thanks guys another question.

The impellor was changed only six months ago, I do not think it it the impellor, but it might be the housing.

How can I tell if it was overheating??

Thanks,

Chunkin.
