1981 70 merc wierd problems

My 70hp merc does the following, last year would runstrong at times then run like it was at two thirds power. It would die down to idle, not stall then run fine again. this year ran fine then down to idle,stalled and would not start then start but not idle. seemed to be hot. I would appreciate any ideas of where to start looking for problem. Water pump seems to be working. Thanks

Welcome to iboats!

I'd start with checking compression, spark and fuel lines and bulb. Not sure about the "seemed to be hot" problem, hopefully someone else will chime in.

i cant help you but if you sell it off i need parts from it
