Hey guys, firstly im new to the forum and would like to say HI.

I have just removed the powerhead off my 81 J60TLCIH motor. powerhead came off fine, but in the process i have damaged the gasket on the adaptor plate that stays on the lower unit, thinking it came off with the powerhead i was gently prying it apart with a pry bar. then realising id left a 3/8 nut on the powerhead came free leaving this part attached. My question is.... is this critical that it is sealed 100%, and also to pull it off i need to pull the steering arm off. what is the easiest way to approach this. I have un-done the 3 bolts holding the rubber mount at the top but cant quite figure out how to undo the bottom end??

any help would be greatly appreciated guys! cheers.

Welcome to iboats leenolan82!

Yes that gasket is important, it must be replaced.
The steering arm/tilt tube removal and repair is quite a job, with lots of parts. I would suggest you get a OMC factory repair manual like this one on ebay. You will be glad you did. "Some libraries carry repair manuals also"
