1981 2hp evinrude... Please Help ! ! !

1981 2hp evinrude.. runs with choke on for couple minutes. Then i have to keep feathering the choke to make it run reguargdless of the throttle setting. It wont stay running in any one choke position. Im thinking maybe the float isnt allowing enough gas in the bowl. Does that make sense to anyone? But if you guys have any other ideas or better suggestions please let me know. I was just gonna take it to a shop and say FIX IT.... but nobody will touch it for another 3 weeks... Please help....

Well... sounds like it's too lean. It could be a stuck float like you suggest I guess, but some fuel's getting in. Could also be the carb jets are clogged with crud or varnish. Might also be a problem between the tank and the carb. I think on those ones there's some kinda screen/filter built into the fuel shut off valve on the bottom of the tank (?) maybe disconnect the fuel line from the carb and make sure fuel flows freely. That'd tell you whether to direct your attention backwards towards the tank, or go into the carb.<br /><br />good luck.<br /><br />Brent

Thanks for your suggestion.... i did make sure there is fuel getting to the carb, and when i got it, it was all varnished up. i didnt dissasemble it completely, but it sounds like maybe thats what i need to do and make sure it is cleaned. Thanks for the advice.
