1981 140hp lower unit seal kit instalation?

how do I install the oring on the shift rod cover?I've removed the carrier bearing housing and replaced the seals.its ready to go back in. are there any tricks i should know about the seal kit?

you can dig it out with a dential pick grease up a new one and carefully push it in. i use small philipps screw driver.
