I am working on a merc 50 hp , I believe it is a mid to early 80's 50 HP ,4 cylinder, it keeps blowing the powerpack on the top two cylinders, I was wondering if this could be the voltage regulator/stator/trigger or combination of all three, it has blown three packs so far and Im looking for the reasons why.Any help is appreciated.

You have a uncommon problem but I guess that you already know that, first without throwing expensive parts at it you will need a DVA or take it to some one that has one. The problem could be caused by a voltage spike from the stator or if the staror wiring is revesed on the box it and could burn the box rectifier out. A shorted coil or wire to the wire leading to the coils could overload the system and burn the box up. You might go to the CDI site and get a phone number for a tech line and call it for help.
