1980 Mercruiser 228 shifting problems

After the boat warms up i have trouble shifting out of forward the shift cable looks good and the previous owner had the shift boot and i am fairly sure lower cable replaced
is there an adjustment that might help?

or could the interrupter switch stop working after it gets hot shifts fine for about a half hour then its had to shift, it does not stall idel rpm is about 600

East to test by pushing the arm and see if it stalls the motor. Has there been an overheat condition. it can damage the cable where it passes close to the exaust pipe.
