123 ---was smoking something today.----Agreed the 7 " might put the motor into a high RPM range.----But a 15' boat also may have a lot of drag.----Using a tach is the best bet.

MOD EDIT - Again OFF TOPIC. Trash asked about running hot. It had nothing to with not peeing. This is your 3rd and final warning about staying on topic.

Just FYI: I have a photo laser tach that works pretty well for checking/testing. I'm pretty sure it was cheaper than the tiny tach.

Good evening gents,

I finally have something interesting to report back. I had mixed results this past weekend. The water was fine while running, then hot in the barrel at idle. The motor also stalled and died while in slow idle, but right afterwards ran beautifully in WOT for 40ish minutes until I got back to the dock. This all got me thinking that perhaps the thermostat is the issue. I took the water cover off today and lo and behold.. the motor has no thermostat.

I have one coming in tomorrow. I was wondering if this could have been the cause of my hot pisswater issue?

Last night you posted saying the tell-tell was cooler on the lake and hot in the barrel and no thermostat was found in the motor.

Are you sure the barrel is set up right and the water pump is getting enough water to cool in the barrel? Have you tried running on muffs?

That's right. When running, I reached around and the water that was coming out seemed cool to me. I left it at that, and didn't check it again while in idle on the water. During flushing in the barrel I did two things: (1) felt the engine block which was HOT, couldn't keep my hand there for longer than 2-3 seconds and (2) checked the telltale again which felt somewhat hot.

Yesterday, I found there was no t-stat. I don't know what I might be doing wrong with the barrel, considering its just a 40 gallon trash can with water from a garden hose. I fill it up near to the brim.

Sorry folks, Saltaway only does its work well on new out of the box and same motor flushed regularly with fresh water after its use. Doesn't work for oldie motors used on salt water which will have collected tons of microscopiiiiic salt layers one in top of the other through the years that will inevitably be found on all water paths.

As an experiment : flush the motor with whatever product you like, for whatever time amount you like. Go for a wot run as if stealing the combo for say 20-30 minutes on flat calm water and check if the motor runs very hot, loses performance compared as when running cold or even overheats.

Running any motor on fresh water is one scenario, running the motor on salt water is the worse possible scenario...

Happy Boating
