I have a 1980 50hp Mercury that appears to miss or be fuel starved at full throttle when on the water. The motor runs fine at full throttle for a few minutes and then has this issue. This happened a few times on the same day recently. When having this issue, a friend squeezed the primer ball and the issue resolved itself for a very short time. He did this several times with the same result.

The motor starts fine and there are not any noticeable issues at low speeds on the water.

Just last week the boat was in the shop. It was my understanding that a float was adjusted in one of the two carbs. So, I am not sure if my current issue is some sort of carb issue...?

They also replaced the stator. The mechanic said the insulation on the existing wires was literally falling apart in this hands. So, I am not sure if my current issue is a short due to lack of insulation on old wiring...?

The mechanic also thought the switch box was bad. He said it appeared to be bad but then seem to work fine. Due to the cost (and age of the motor) he suggested to just run it until it died. So, I am not sure if my current issue is due to the bad switch box...? The motor starts okay and seems to fun fine unless at full throttle. I would assume that a bad switch box would behave in this manner.

The fuel hose from the tank to the motor is new. If it is a fuel pressure issue, I assume it would be downstream of the new hose (and not upstream)...?

Thanks in advance for the help! It is much appreciated!

Thanks racerone, I did pull that out and it looks okay. The end of the that tube is covered in wire mesh; that and the tube were not clogged.
