Merrily rebuilding the carb after it sitting for 17 years and found the needle and seat in the kit was not a direct replacement. The new needle was rubber tipped and fit into a brass seat. The needle in the original is all brass and there is a rubber "seat" that it mates with down inside the hole. I cleaned up the original and re-installed it. It appears that you would have to extract the rubber seat from the carb body in order to upgrade to the new needle style. It was pretty snug in the hole. I tried to install the new one and it didn't go in far enough for the float to function properly. I'm sure someone has run across this.

That rubber seal might be the same one used in the T@T valves???

Thanks for the reply. The old seal in the picture resembles the tire off a hot wheels car and it fits inside a recess in the removable seat. The needle seals against the small hole in it. There is also an additional rubber seal sitting in the bore underneath the seat below the threads that did not come out and I didn't get too aggressive trying to get it out. I reassembled it since destroying the seal down inside the bore would definitely be a bad thing. If someone has seen this and confirms that you can pry that seal out and the new needle and seat are a replacement I will go ahead and do it.

neoprene tipped version requires a wire attachment to keep it from sticking (supplied with kit). In any case, can't you just use the old needle? I know I've done that (successfully) a few times with J&E outboards when fit or function wasn't quite right.

Carb works good in the barrel. Need to get it in the lake next.
