Hey all, I'm new to rebuilding boats but I would really like to see this thing running again. (hope this is in the correct forum)

I inherited this boat from my grandfather, so it has sentimental value to me. The boat, as in the title, is a 1979 Omega tri hull. Now the only two problems with the boat is the engine, and the floor. I can handle the floor, it's the engine I am having trouble with. It's a Volvo AQ130D hooked to a Volvo Penta 280. It was taken apart because it stopped running, and the cylinder head has long since been lost. What I am wondering is, would it be possible to either rebuild this engine(Expensive?), re-power the 280 with something else, or just replace the whole combo with something else? Is there any more modern outdrive that will fit in the same transom holes? Also, there doesn't seem to be any front motor mounts, should I be looking for them?

Any information would help me greatly.

Re: 1979 Omega

Target welcome to iboats . The inboard / outboard questions will be better answered up in the inboard / outboard forum :D. The rest of the resto ( new deck etc. ) We can handle down here in the resto forum pretty well . Lots of glass boats down here ( Although Those of us with Tin cans are taking over LOL.)

Thanks for the reply! I guess the engine questions would make more sense there, haha.

Well I just had it set in my mind that I was "restoring" an engine. I will be restoring the boat though.

Yeppers the Buford was an Apollo all of which oddly enough are just differant versions of the Nova :D:D. Then for the Canadian neighbors there was the Pontiac Accadian .:D

Pah! yup, you're right! Not such a common car to see, either of them. Here in the states, the Pontiac version was the Sprint ( with the up option being the GTO ). I'd rather have the Nova SS out of all of 'em.
