Yes, figured compression test would be good idea, just put my compression tester in truck tool bx.
Hadn't considered impellers but will replace them for sure, makes sense, spend a little now, save a lot later!!

I would check the wiring and all the fuel hoses. Mine were all hard and brittle so I replaced them. Once the motor is running check that the thermostats are working. I found out someone had removed them on the engine I bought. Change the lower unit oil when you do the impeller. Grease the zerks for the tilt and mid section. I rebuilt the carbs and fuel pump also but that was just for peace of mind. I knew the engine Sat for a while before I bought it.
