Just wondering if anyone out there has removed the shift shaft bushing on one of these, and can shed some light as to how it should be accomplished.
I'm working on a friends 9.8 hp serial 5640302. I was putting a new impeller in it when I saw the shift shaft seal leaking. Well I just can't send it in that condition Any help is appreciated. I found a photo of what it looks like

Take the square head set screw out, then hold down on the shift shaft so it don't come ou and pull the bushing out with a pair of pliers, with a twisting action.

Thanks Laddies. I was just cautious because I have no service manual and it was hard to tell by the microfiche exactly how it fit in there. It came out with a bit of effort, the bushing is now junk, but I ordered a new one. For the record If you can remove the mounting stud just forward of the shift shaft it makes it easier to get a grip on the bushing.
Thank again
