Got something done tonight. My new bow rails are mounted. I had to cut the center uprights and drill all new mounting holes.

Like I said before, I'm thrilled with how these turned out.

Had a few minutes tonight. Finished cleaning up the starboard rubrail channel using zipstrip, a power washer and soap and water.

Loosely mounted now, It seems I misplaced the screws for it.

dj - when you mount that rub rail consider using some sort of sealer/bedding compound between the rail and the deck and on each screw thread. My rub rail has never been removed or damaged, but somehow water on the deck manages to leak inside the boat. Perhaps there is a standard fix for this, but I haven't seen it discussed yet. I'm not ready to paint my hull yet, so I'm reluctant to pull the rail off, but I may have to, just to stop the leak. Maybe someone else who has already been there can comment. - Grandad

Port rub rail channel cleaned up and installed tonight. Looks just like the pic above, but on the other side! Picked up a box of screws for them on my way home.

Grandad, I did consider bedding them, but that probably would have ended up messy. The way the inner is shaped it would take a big bead to fill, then you wouldn't really be able to see anyway. I'm going to have the painter run a bead along the edge before he paints. Looks like that's all Starcraft did originally. Question then, what to use to fill the slight gap between the rubrail channel and gunnel top? Paint needs to stick to it...

Also, I'm going to have a fixed marine radio with an 8' Shakesphere antenae on this boat for venturing out on Lake Michigan. I have a ratchet mount also. Opinions on where to mount antanae? Next to driver and fold down rearward, or mount aft and fold down toward the front? Ideas?

As close to the helm as possible to help you remember to lower it at covered slips. If never in a covered slip, or never going under a low bridge, etc, the least in the way spot you can find. Near the helm would seem to be a good spot to keep it from interfering with the fish landing & retrieval.....

I know more then 1 captain that's hung a 'LOWER ANTENNA' sign above their slip after snapping an antenna or 2 returning to the slip (esp after dark)....

I was considering something like Gluvit for mine as it is still intact. I was thinking about masking both the deck and the rail with just a very narrow space where they meet and applying an epoxy sealer that would creep under the rail before setting. Maybe there's something cheaper than Gluvit. Locktite makes a one-part liquid filler for worn parts that might work to fill the gap.

I'd mount the antenna as far forward as possible and hope that there is still enough gunwale left 8' back that people won't step on it when boarding. - Grandad

Gluvit might be a little thin. Can you see a gap? I was thinking 3m 4200 with a fine tip. I have to check and see if it's paint-able.

The antanae will go next to the windshield starboard side. The thing I dont like is with a ratchet mount, the mounted end of the antanae will be about 4" above the gunnel, the tip will be on the gunnel in a clip. May look kinda goofy down but oh well.....

Had a little unexpected cash pop up so I splurged for a new control and engine harness. The original harnes was kind of hacked up so this should make it easy getting the engine up and running when the time comes.

Just catching up on your thread after several days of R&R, things are looking good! That's the same control I have, it works great and you're gonna love it. The handle is comfortable and the action is real smooth.

So I got this ratchet mount for my antanae...

Looks a little goofy folded down cause the mount is so tall. Something like this would be nice if it existed, just a single hinge with the tightening handle....would be much lower.

I just took out the center piece for a visual. Anyone got an easy idea?

We're getting closer to paint, almost all the trim is on now...

I had a revelation on my rear seating, going a different direction I think. I'm going to build a box around the batteries, and put a fixed seat cushion on top of it. On either side will be a removable cushion supported on the sides so it's open under it. The center back cushion will be fixed and the sides removeable. That way by removing one seat bottom and back my kids can get in and out of the water easily, kinda a walk thru transom with one step up. I'm going to put a swim platform on the starboard side and kicker to port.

Back seating ideas sound great and the walk through. Consider putting in some type of grab rail.

On mine after skiing or tubing they are tired and a hand hold helps them get in the boat. I moved a stainless rod holder that is flipped up and makes a great hand hold.

Yeah, great idea for the handrail. An 18"-er will fit nice on top of the gunnel back there and I think be right where you'd expect one to be. Going to look them up and get'em ordered tonight!
