Re: 1979 16' Starcraft SuperSport

Hey Mike who got the soaker when you cranked it in gear LOL....
sounded like a chainsaw.....WHAAAAAA>>>>>>>>>>>>
cool video...I really need to track down my little powershot camera so we can take vids again

chat soon

Vegas that vid is from my little 8.3mp Fuji...pretty decent quality.

We have a Sony Handycam w/40gig internal HD that I'll be using for the splash video...alot higher quality and unbelievable zoom:D

I have been able to stay away from craigslist so far...but I'm obsessed with picking out the gauges and seats for the new rig now LOL

I'm just glad that the dash panels are 100% intact, one small hole that can be used. I'm thinking about putting in a glove box on the portside dash to house the stereo and extra bilge plug.:D

yeah some new gauges would be NICE white or black! decisions decisions!

glovebox is agreat idea....VW parts make for cheap upgrades such as that...
try a junkyard 1rst that way you get all the parts ...glovebox/door/retainer and such

Got that garage cleared out yet for your WINTER RESTO? lol

catch ya a bit later!:D

Vegas thanks for the salvage idea:)...I'm sure I can scrounge around and find something at the old junkyard...maybe a newer car that got rear-ended that still has a shiny new glovebox;)

The garage is being cleared out...sloooowly. LOL our basement is getting smaller and smaller each day.

I've figured out that I can have a tach on the old Merc so gauges will be one of my early areas of focus. Need to make sure she's propped perfectly and might even mess around with a 3-bladed prop for kicks and giggles.:D

Re: 1979 16' Starcraft SuperSport

I stopped by to visit the yellow SS on saturday before I went deer hunting(got a doe) and took some more pictures. I will be buying the rig this friday and hopefully splash her before all the lakes freeze.

I inspected the boat again and didn't find any major problems, actually discovered that the original bow structure for the wrap-around seats is intact and will be easier to restore than I thought.

The splashwell is pretty scratched up...not sure if we are gonna stick with the yellow, starcraft made a grey 16' SS in '79 that would look sweet...

And the crew gives their approval...should be a good project and a fun rig for fishing and skiing when we're done.

I will be starting a new restoration thread(wow I haven't finished my first one yet LOL) and tearing into her after a few test runs in november in Michigan...brrrrr

I agree the transom is job number one...seems like it will be a pretty easy job compared to some other transom designs. That will be keeping me busy for a while this winter.

I'll probably rebuild the entire deck as well if my budget allows it. I will be investigating the boat this weekend and hopefully splashing it too since we've been having some mild november weather this year:)

Thanks 86 century:D...I'm glad that the yellow SS's are still out there and my girlfriend likes the color so we may be doing a full resto to original colors, not sure just yet.

I think it would look sweet with white/orange too, that will be determined later:)

Re: 1979 16' Starcraft SuperSport

I just found this kicker bracket for $40 on CL, might have to check it out since it looks like I could probably replace the wood on it and be in business:D

It would hold my 1955 5.5hp Johnson nicely for trolling and well...in case the 80hp Merc has some issues:D

Friggin' awesome Mike!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Were there issues and that's all she had in her or were you just taking it slow? Either way you're definitely only some tweaking away from full power. Congrats!! So happy for you.
