Yes it does matter. Your flywheel needs to be orientated with the crank a certain way. I just recently did this to mine. What I did was to use a dial indicator mounted in #1 cylinder. Then I turned the crank and took #1 piston to Top Dead Center. I then set the indicater to zero. Then turned the crank about a quarter turn past 0.464" counterclockwise, then back clocwise to 0.464". Once I got this setting, I placed the flywheel onto the hub on crank with the .464 BTDC mark in the area of the timing pointer. It will be obvious if you are rotated too much or not enough.<br /><br />I suppose you could also just take your #1 piston to TDC (top dead center) and put the flywheel on with the TDC mark on flywheel in the timing pointer area.
