I have a 1978 evinrude 115 that was my grandfathers and given to me a year or so ago. To make a long story short I finally got it running this spring but it continued to start hard and idle very rough with poor fuel economy. I had replaced 2 of the coils this spring when I sent it to a marine dealer for trouble shooting of an ignition problem. Replaced the remaining 2 coils the other day and now the first 2 are not firing hot enough to burn but the motor has continued to run, albeit rough.
My question is: Is it possible for the motor to run on poor spark (2 cylinders firing well and 2 poorly), this would explain all the hard starting from what I gathered and I have always thought that the thing performed poorly but was unsure since this is my first boat, I actually thought that I needed a smaller prop since I have only been able to achieve 4200 rpm WOT.
What do you think?
