I recently purchaed this boat knowing it would need some work. The floor had a couple of weak spots so I decided to replace it. I first removed everything from the interior of the boat and then used a die grinder to cut the fiberglass sheeting on top of the plywood. When I removed the foor it was obvious that some type of oil had leaked into the boat and made it way up the hull. I first started with engine degreaser and a brush which did a pretty good job, but was a lot of work. Then I decided to us a pressure washer which was a lot easier and cut through most of the greese.

I'll keep adding photos as the project moves forward. My goal is to get this boat in good working condition without sinking too much money into it.

Re: 1978 Rinkerbuilt Rebuild Projet

Thanks friscoboater... Today I cut into the areas next to the engine and removed the foam. I'm thinking I will use this area for the batteries (one on each side). I'll make a fiberglass housing with a drain hole just in case water get in. The area isn't deep enough to cover the battery, so I think I'll build the area up around the battery housing so I can make a cover for the compartment.

I also cut 1.5" holes in the support members in the hull to allow water to flow freely. I'm guessing this is why the original floor rotted in spots.
