I recently bought a 1978 Phantom Spirit, the boat is in bad shape but i think i'm up for the challenge... I just cleaned out all the leaves, trash, trees and ect. I ripped up the floor because well there really was not anything there..lol... im looking at foam and a few stringers but planning on replacing all.. I'm in the process of separating the two pieces now, I cant find any pix or info on this boat, any help would be greatly appreciated... I'm goin to post pix to show what i've done already and along the restore...

That's the bilge. You have stringers, I see them in the third pic. You are fine to just replace what was there. The center is probably open for use as a ski locker, etc.

when i opened the floor someone had stuffed large pieces of styrofoam all in there i still have water coming from i guess the foam.. I was wondering since most of the stringers and runners are plywood and about an inch thick can i use composition deck boards? they are made from plastic and recycled wood. I've also read about the foam and am i better off using noodles than foam?

Re: 1978 Phantom Spirit

I would stick with properly sealed exterior grade plywood. Those deck boards don't have a lot of lateral strength and are very heavy. Pink/blue foam boards versus noodles are a personal choice. I went with noodles just because I didn't want to deal with all the messy cutting and trimming of the board pieces.

Re: 1978 Phantom Spirit

this might be a dumb question but what is the purpose of having a lid over the bilge area? mine had the same. I'm going to pull off the cap i guess thats what its called since its a two piece so i can further my rebuild is there any problems that can arise from this?

The lid is for ski/fishing rod storage. Totally optional.

Popping the cap will make your work easier. I recommend it.

Re: 1978 Phantom Spirit

got the cap off today went really well surprisingly...cut the rest of the old fiber glass from floor and I started the long task of getting all the old foam out..is there an easier way instead of a chisel and putty knife? will post pix tomorrow before work.
