1978 mercury 1500xs

I would like to know more about this motor. I just bought one and it is very clean. Is there somekind of generator or? that charges my batteries while in operation. I have the harness and dont know whether there is such a function. I have heard of charging systems on outboards. Is this a good motor? thanks,<br /><br />Robert 976fish.com

Welcome to iboats,Robert.<br />It's a classic, and one heck of a motor,IMHO.<br />It has a regulated charging output from the stator coil. These motors are very reliable,and there a bunch of them still out there on the water.<br />I highly recommend you buy the shop manual for this engine, as it will surely pay for itself.
