Hey,

I'm new here but not to the whole forum thing, everything I own I'm a a member of at-least 1 forum...lol

I just had the opportunity to get a free 1977 Wellcraft Nova 250XL minus the motors and outdrives. I'm a speed freak and know how to build up a set of mean motors so that's not an issue for me, the outdrives on the other hand, well I know they're Mercruisers...that's it. So I'm here to gain some knowledge on how this stuff works and some of the tricks of the hobby/madness/obsession (I'm a car junkie so I know how it is...lol)

I really only plan on using the boat for blasting around the Long Island Sound and fishing off of it every once and a while (fishing was the excuse that me and my dad used to get my mom allow the new project...lol)

Well that's all I can think of now and hopefully I can get some good info off of this site!

it has outdrives, or it doesn't?

You might want to check out frenchyboat's post a few threads down over in the i/o forum as far as figuring out what you have and don't have.

It should have outdrives, they're missing along with the motors. I need to know which outdrives will bolt to the existing hardware (gimble housings?) that's in the transom.

The Chevelle isn't pretty right now but she's my baby. I've been restoring her since I was in 8th grade, I'm graduating HS in a few months now.

The Nova will be at my house on the 14th. That's when we're getting it transported. I have a line on a marine 350 that's complete to the outdrive. They cut it out of the boat and everything is there so even if we're only getting the outdrive and some brackets it's worth the $200 we're paying for it.

I'll post up a pic or two of the Chevelle in a few.

Well here's some pictures of the Nova. She's a little rough but nowhere near being not worth it.

That is a really cool boat! Twin 5.7's should push it well!

I love docking lights... Looks like it has eyes... Man I want them on my boat!

Re: 1977 Wellcraft Nova Restoration

Giving up on project, my daily driver is needing a ton of work and I have a Chevelle to restore. I need the boat gone, it is FREE to anyone who wants it. It needs motors and outdrives, everything else is there. Great hull, I don't want to junk it.

I saw on another forum that as of 7/24/09 this boat was still intact and available. That still the case?

Re: 1977 Wellcraft Nova Restoration

I have a 25 foot 1977 Wellcraft Nova that I am in the process of restoring. The motors are very low compression but I have a doner set with outdrives from a 87 wellcraft nova. I need to find time to do the engine swap.

I stumbled onto this site and glad to see others like the hull style of the 77 nova. :)

I swear that 250 looks identical to my 78 210 hull design.

No, Skargo, yours looks much better. Now quit posting pics of your pristine 210, or I'm gonna throw the towel in on my ongoing 210 restoration...(lol). Finally got off the ground, will post pics when I can.
