Hello Everyone,

I purchased this motor on a boat about a month ago, motor was running when I looked at it. Brought it home fixed the boat up water ready, but now no start. Read all the threads about fuel etc, but no spark at any time. replaced the wiring harness, & what I thought was the suspect in all the threads I had read, the swithbox. Still no spark at any cyl @ any time. Kind of confused! About ready to take down to boat shop and probably take a beatin for a boat on the cheap. Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Is it possible a problem related to the trigger? I have a manual, but it is a seloc manual. Thanks in advance.

Re: 1977 Mercury 1150 No Spark No Fizzle

I have replaced the old switchbox with the CDI one with the coil attached. I am not getting voltage across the box (not voltage on any of the (3) wires going to trigger. No spark from coil wire to ground. No mercury switch attached.
Thanks.

Is there any test for the CDI 114-2986, or is it the same procedure. Any ideas?

Step 4 of NO SPARK ON ANY CYLINDER : Says to chk DVA voltage between white & black trigger wires @ 3V. Is this while cranking or just with key on "on" position?

Thats with the engine turning, the simple way to see what the problem is is to use the arc test at the top of the page.

Sorry, Little shaddy on the spark test. Is this performed while turning the engine over? Is the spark visible at the wire where you are grounding on the jumper off swichbox, or at the gap on the coil wire?

Turn the engine to #1 TDC and install a spark gap in #1 plug wire.

You ask is that trigger voltage test with the engine turning? I answered "That's with the engine turning" and added "the simple way to see what the problem is is to use the arc test at the top of the page" Just try reading the test and doing it like hundreds of others have done. Have a good day.

Sorry, I've read the test any found a few things that were confusing. I was looking for a little clarification on what I found confusing as someone not very familiar. Information that would be helpful prior to ruining something. Thanks for your help.

Thanks for all the help! Found that the trigger is bad. What is involved with replacing a trigger for this engine. Timing issues etc. Is a Seloc manual a sufficient manual or is there a better publisher? I have done a few forum searches, but haven't been able to find a good description of replacement. Any additional help would be greatly appreciated.

Found a replacement trigger I think, 134-3736 is this a newer version by CDI than OEM?

Any breakdowns or better exploded views than in SELOC?
