I have been working on this motor to update the wiring since it was all original and they were not in usable condition. Well I was finally able to start it tonight and by doing so now have two questions. First the motor will only run while choked I imagine this is an idication to rebuild the fuel pump? The second problem has me really concerned after running the motor for a minute my friend pointed out that some milky fluid was leaking from the prop with smoke rolling from it. Could this be due to the fact that it had not been started in two years? I changed the gear oil a few days ago and this mystery liquid smelt more of fuel than oil. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.... Thanks

You answered your own question its unburnt fuel and oil. hows your spark it might sound good in the driveway on muffs but the inline 6 can be missing on 2 cyl and still sound alright. i have a 1974 115. drips a little oil out the prop after i run it on muffs then put it back in the garage

If it runs only when choked, the idle passages in the carbs are dirty. Purchase some gasket sets, floats and inlet needles (likely ~$40 for all), and soak, clean and rebuild the carbs. Purchase a Merc Service manual to assist you.

I rebuilt the fuel pump and she started right up and ran. I did buy the parts to rebuild the carbs so hopefully I can get to that tomorrow. Thanks for your help...
