Sutor, Unfortunately, his Merc doesn't not have bolts, except for the rear, hidden bolt. His gearcase and midsection have only studs... The the most fun is that you need to thread nuts onto the two gearcase studs back from the very front, before the gearcase is fully installed, or you cannot put them on at all...

Your plan will work on 'Rudes though....

Gotcha. Ulgh what a back breaker. I seem to remember being able to use the bolt trick on my old '67 650.

If you trim the motor up as far as possible, she is nearly level and the weight of the gearcase is not an issue.

Hey guys. Thanks a bunch for all your input. I really appreciate the fact that you all took time out to help me out. Yes, my back took a beating. And I think I pulled out most of my hair. And said a few curse words, that always helps.

The good news is I got it back on. I was waiting for that eureka moment which didn't happen. That reverse lock cam looks like it was in backwards and I did turn it around. The motor does have power trim but I decided to leave it in. I don't even know what the purpose of it is. Anyway I slid the lower back into place. I had three threads of the front stud sticking up through and put the nut on it and slowly tightened it. I was closing up. Then put on the additional bolts and evenly tightened them back into place. So, I was expecting slide the darn thing right up into place but obviously that wasn't going to happen. Lets say I was too gentle with it. All the gears work like they should so I guess this was and experience that will make me smarter in the future.

You guys RULE!! If you all lived closer I'd have a bbq and some beers for ya.
