What is wrong with my lower unit, when I take off it sometimes hits in the lower unit like I have hit a stump, what should I do ?

Sounds like your clutch dog and forward gear are worn somewhat and jumping in and out of gear. It my be time to remove the LU and carefully check out those parts and freshen it up to new condition now... JMHO!

buy a remanufactued lower unit or take one from a parts motor. bad gears maybe the clutch dog. Do you have metal bits stuck on your magnetic screw?

or live with it until total failure but a lock up could take out the parts upstream. You're about due for a repower.
