Working on a 77 Johnson 35.
35el77c

To make a long story short, starter would not crank over. Finally got it to crank by grounding the soloniod. Neutral switch on the other side doesn't pass ground through it. There is only 1 wire to it....the one that goes to the soloniod. Is there supposed to be another wire or does it ground out through the body? I noticed there is another connector with nothing on it.

Let me know,
Thanks.

???-----These only have ONE WIRE.-----They only need 1 wire.------The ground is internal.-----I have cleaned the internal parts.-----Easy to take apart and clean.

Yes, looks like it comes apart easy enough. I'll try that.

Thank you.

Doesn't come apart as far as I can see. Glued and a center rivet or something.

Same switch type was used from about 1960 to 2005.-----Black ones come apart easy.----White ones may need rivet on bottom drilled off

Clean the internal to re-establish the ground.
Lol, I get that.

How do you get it to hold together?

I have two motors with white ones....both looked glued and maybe riveted.

I might perform surgery on one just to help relieve myself of the 40 beer tokens I just spent for a new one!

Okay, got the new parts and got the old gal up and running. Having a few issues and trying to work them out.

I have some smoke coming from under the carb for some reason. Taking it apart now. What does the rubber tube from just under the flywheel that goes down to the block?

Thinking it's leaking but not sure what it does. Hard to get to.

Let me know.

The rubber tube is the oil recirculation line.----Most motors use oil recirculation.----Some you can see and on some motors there is an internal passage way.

Forgot the pics....yes, there is two on this one. Both hard and cracked. I'm hoping that's where the smoke was coming from.

Do you know if the fluid is going up or down....I'm assuming it's lubing the upper bearing.

Replaced the rubber line previously discussed and the other one that goes from the bottom intake to the starboard side of the block near the back. Both were old and cracked.

Pretty sure those wouldn't make smoke though. What else could make smoke can me out down there....bad lower block gasket?

So hard to tell.
