I have a problem with a boat I have aquired. The throttle will not go into reverse. It is like the reverse lock is stuck or something. Does anyone have any suggestions before I tear into it?

Thanks.....

What type of control unit do you have?

Where is it, what does it look like?

Are you saing that the shifter in the control box will not move towards the rev position?

If that is the case..you will most likely have to take the control box apart. Look for worn COGS and replace as needed.

TMD

Sorry about the post earlier, it is actually located on the right side (it was late).

Yes Marine Doc, the shift will not go towards the reverse postion. Today I ended up pulling the control box apart today and there is a worn cog that cause the throttle lever gears to slip under it, preventing it from going into reverse.

I will replace the worn parts, which leads me to another question.

When I took the control box apart, there is a bearing at the end of a spring that I guess gives you a feel of where your throttle is at. Is this important to have? And what is the best method of re-installing it?

thanks for the replies...
