I have a 77 glastron bass boat that has a hull in good condition, but needs new floor, carpet and going to go ahead and run new wiring to everything so I know what everything goes to. I am having trouble getting my picture files small enough to post.
Anyways I am guessing that it is not normal to have a gap on the bottom of the bilge area where the transom connects to the bilge wall. I spent an hour the other day cleaning out the drainage system to get it to where water can flow nicely and noticed that there was an area that looked like it could suppose to be like that, but don't think so.
Can someone help me and tell me if the gap in the picture is suppose to be there? I am guessing if all the drainage water is suppose to flow in the center of the hull and that's it, then those slits should be sealed up.
Any recommendations? Am I going to have to glass that in or is there a putty or something I can plug that up with so I can throw a coating of epoxy on it. Please help. I just got this boat, first one, and would like to have someone more knowledgeable than me to give me some guidance on what would be the way to go about it.

As always, thank you for taking the time to read and reply. This website probably has saved the average Joe thousands time over.

Meant to mention that the stringers appear to be not to bad, yet. Know if this is not how it is suppose to be I need to fix now before they rot.

Thanks guys

No, not normal. From the pix, the plastic fitting and all the white carp gooped up all over it, someone attempted to replace tbe thru hole and didnt do a very good job of it.

I STRONGLY advise you to core sample the transom and Stringers. It's the only For Sure way to KNOW if they are good or not. Boats of this vintage typically have issues with both. That goop in the bilge is a good indication that there was a problem and if so it probably compromised the wood core of the transom

So I'm guessing if the stringers and/or the transom has any kind of water intrusion that I would have to pop the top and do a full restoration on it? I don't call myself that qualified to do that, which I'm sure would probably be best. On a rule of thumbs, where SHOULD someone draw the line on when it is ok to leave like it is or to need gutted and redone?
