Hi all,

Longtime listener, first time caller...

I have a 1977 Evinrude 140 attached to my 1977 Baja Tri 16. I bought the boat last year and have been slowly planning repairs as time allows. When I bought it the PO ran it on muffs for me for a couple of minutes to prove it started and ran (on muffs).

Since buying the boat I've -
refilled the power trim reservoir
drained the lower unit oil and replaced it - no indication of water intrusion
put a new fuel line and squeeze ball on
drained the 17~ gallon aluminum tank and refilled with 50:1 gas:eek:il mix
cleaned the screen fuel filter near the carbs

After doing this I ran it on muffs for 10-15 minutes. I shut the motor down and had a celebratory beverage. Afterwards I tried to start the motor up again and got an overheat alarm.

Used my noncontact thermometer and the heads were in the 180 degree range. I took off the two rubber hoses, located in the vee of the heads, that allow water to circulate and blew them out. I let the motor cool to 100 degrees surface temp, hooked the muffs back up and the motor started and ran fine. The temperature rose to an indicated 140 degrees and held steady for 45 minutes. All the while I was checking temp on each head near the plug, on the sides of the motor, anywhere I thought might get hot.

Since then I haven't run the motor. It's been a few weeks and I've been doing a lot of reading here.

I want to make sure that I have replaced any wear items such as the impeller and spark plugs before I run the motor again.

I saw this http://www.iboats.com/mall/partfind...d_poid=109116&gd_row=114&session_id=454196855 listed on iBoats.com and wondered if this is all I need. Are there any additional O-Rings or gaskets that I should replace on the LU when I change the impeller. LU oil was good, dirty bronze, but didn't show signs of water intrusion.

Would http://www.iboats.com/mall/partfind...gd_poid=110971&gd_row=69&session_id=797242224 be a better choice?

I'd rather be safe than sorry. Are there any parts besides what's in this kit that I should order at the same time?

Thanks in advance!

I know ya'll love pics...

Your pump has a s/s liner in it, you should get by with just the impeller. You will be able to tell better when you get it apart.

Thanks Daviet! I'll plan to order the impeller and once the LU is off, assess the situation further.
