I am looking for information on how to remove the cover housing on a 1977 115 HP Evinrude remote control. Best I can tell I have all the screws off. It seems to be pressed on perhaps to the shift/throttle plate. As the cover looks like it is cast aluminum I don't want to pry on it too much. I am able to get the bottom part of the cover off but the top won't come off. Any help or direction would be great. (I am in the process of changing out my gear cable and need to gain access to remove the old cable)
Thanks in advance.

Go to shop.evinrude.com and look up your mtr. Look for controls and click on that. You will find one good diagram of it.

I printed that diagram and used it when taking it apart but still no luck in getting the top cover plate off. Is there a trick or am I missing a screw from the inside that I don't know about. Or could it just be coroded together. Just don't want to break anything when I pry if there is still a screw.

Thanks

not sure how yours is mounted but on mine, i can remove the bottom half by removing the screws from inside the boat. to get the top half off, i have to remove the remote from the hull to get to the screws for the top half. There shouldnt be anything close to like a press fit though. if you get all the screws out, it should come off with little effort. have you removed the shift/throttle handle and warm up lever? those might be part of your problem.

hotshot thanks for the reply... I did remove the shift/throttle handle and the warm up lever. All that is left is the top half of the cover. In your post are you saying that I need to remove the control box completely from the boat in order to get access to certain screws?

Thanks

That's what he's saying. After you get it removed from the boat back out the studs that hold it to the boat and the box should come apart. You may also find some screws.

yep, what boobie said.

Im saying that it is possible. mine has scews for the bottom cover on the inside of the boat and screws for the top half are hid between the box and the boat hull. I have to remove my box to get to the screws that hold the top half on.

You don't need to remove the warm-up lever. Just move it up or down to get out of the way.

Thanks guys... I was able to get it removed by removing the control box from the boat. I just assumed that I could get it off without. there were 2 screws on the back of the box that needed to be removed. Thanks!
