1977 Evinrude 115 HP

Folks,
I bought this boat and motor as a project with no known history. It had zero compression on one cylinder. Looks like it experienced some significant detonation. I can see a piece of the top ring is broken off. Anyway I am going to try to fix it. Where can I get parts? Can I reuse gaskets or do I need to buy a gasket kit? Is there a place to get a service manual?

Welcome to the broken piston ring club.-----It is a bad design of the top piston ring that leads to this failure.------Thousands of these motors from 1973 to 1998 have had this failure.-----And almost all the rest will soon fail.

Tear motor apart.-----Inspect all parts.-----Check your budget.-----You need 4 new pistons.----4 new ( updated ) wristpin bearings------New waterpump kit..------Gaskets.----Make sure lower unit is in good condition .-----Perhaps a teardown and inspection there with a seal kit.----WISECO is one piston brand that has different style rings.
