Hi all, Im a new member to this forum and I was referred here by another member. I decided to start my own thread on the boat that I am working on. So the story goes like this: Several years ago I bought a 1977 Apollo Rocket Boat off craigslist for a couple hundred bucks. It has a 1973 Mercury 850 outboard motor on it. I figured worst case I could sell the motor and trailer to get back my investment if I didnt like the boat. The boat is 17ft and is a really cool sitting boat. I bought it with no interior whatsoever, unknown if it runs, and on rough old tires. So I got it home safely and began to plan. First I tore out all the old rotten fiberglass and tore out all the foam. Then I replaced all the foam and layed down some marine plywood and then fiberglassed over that for a strong floor. Next I put down some black interior carpet. Then after I got the boat to where I can work out of it, I started working on my control box. So I opened it up and guess what, the wires were all in awful shape. The box also needs a key so I decided to trash it. I began looking at mercontrol boxes on ebay and the prices are through the roof. So my current project is building my own wiring setup and box. I plan on all the electricals being seperated from the control box. Im currently looking at wiring diagrams and at my motor trying to draw up a plan. So Ill post some pictures soon and If anyone can tell me what all I need for the motor to start and stop. Thanks guys!
