Does anyone know where I can get a new fuel pump for my 1977 85hp Johnson. I know I need a new because it's cracked. But I also have a few more questions concerning the engine.

Back in Aug of 2003 I bought a 1974 Crestliner AMF and it had the 85p johnson on it. Well the owner told me he had to spray ether into it to get it started. So I was going to work on the engine last summer but I was deployed instead and it sat outside in the cold. This year I was checking the engine out and found that the pump was cracked and the fuel lines were all warped. So I replaced the lines and fuel is reaching the pump but dripping out.
Once I replace the pump is there anything else I should check for befor I place it in the water?

Thanks
for any and all help.

John

Any Johnson or Evinrude dealer should still be able to order the pump for your motor. There may even be one available through the Sierra line which is carried at NAPA autoparts stores. Since your motor has been sitting for some time, you probably should do the following to get it seaworthy again:

1. Check the compression to be sure the powerhead is in good shape.

2. Thoroughly clean and rebuild the carbs.

3. Replace the water pump impeller and possibly the housing and plate also.

4. Change the lower unit lube.

5. De-carb the motor.

6. Install a fresh set of plugs.

Good advice from Mc....J. If the body of the pump is cracked, see a local John/Rude dealer for a replacement pump. The replcaement part number is 438559....be around $50. As I recall, the rebuild kits don't have any parts for the body.

Hey!! Thanks for your service to our country....and welcome to iboats!!
