I saw a similar post with no replies so hoping to try again... Like stated in title i have this 75 hp motor, which was rebuilt by a marine dealer last fall. It ran really good right away then became sluggish and VERY hard to start....upon removal of plugs we noticed water beads on #2 plug but others fine. we changed plugs and removed boat from water. Hooked up the muffs and ran it on ground for easier access. removed plugs again and #2 had water run out .....#1 and 3 were dry.....turned motor over and it shot water out of that 2 hole again. so im thinking the hard starting was water in the cylinder of course its off the 90 day warranty ....dealer said he would have to TEAR into it to find the issue.....My guess is failed head gasket or exhaust gasket? or am i way off base....hopefully he will be a stand up guy and accept his rebuild has the issue.......

side note had a different marine mechanic point out that the block had been welded.....and showed me the bead where it was....should that make me more nervous?

It is most likely an exhaust gasket or the exhaust plate is warped and should be planed. Could be head gasket. Anyway, this should be the mechanics job to fix for free. He put the warranty on the engine and I'm sure if he rebuilt it like he said he saw the weld and knows about it. If he had doubts about the weld he should have said something before he rebuilt it.

Agree +1. Take it back to the mechanic and tell him it should be warranty.

where was the block welded , normally what ive seen heaps on these 70,s is that the rod knocks a hole through the intake manifold , if this is your case you have nothing to worry about ,because no water in that area if he tries to blame it on the weld ,& if the welds is in the block itself where water goes then get a 2pack weld testing spray & test the weld , because he might want to blame the weld & not his expenses

when i showed him the weld he acted surprised..."we didnt see that" so that makes me nervous.....Im agreeing with head or exhaust gasket....hopefully they pay close attention to the plate......Im keeping my fingers crossed...have about 2 grand invested in motor, rigging, tweaking....would hate to think i have a big old blue paper weight on there now!

As he should. I'm glad for him and you that he is standing behind his work.
