1977 700 Merc Ignition coil

How do you determine if the ignition coil is bad? The conductivity on the primary is so low I can't tell if I'm getting the proper reading or not. The secondary tower to ground is not showing the correct reading either. Should I just replace them? The stator was bad and replaced. The trigger reading are not right so will replace it. What would cause all these compents to burn out? It's like it got struck by lightining.
