I just got this boat without power. I have a 1990 Suzuki 115 DT, Its a 20" shaft. I am concerned about this heavy boat being underpowered. Also I'm not sure what length shaft to be looking for. Another concern is hooking up existing controlls to a different outboard, are they universal? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much.

I am not sure what hp rating is for that boat. It should say some where on a sticker inside the boat. I do know that as far as the shaft length is concerned that the anti cavitation plate on the lower unit should be about level with the bottom of the boat hull itself.

I would want a 175 on that.
Zuki usually have their own style controls.

Thanks guys for your help. I found a '96 225 mariner, 25" shaft. The advice I've recieved tells me the anti-cavitation plate needs to be about even with the keel, is there a down side to having the shaft too long? In other words, the link to the GW magazine says the transom height is 20", but the "bullet" height is more like 25". Will I run into some trouble with this long shaft motor?

WHAt sort of condition is this boat in?

if it needs a transom you can raise it now to accept that 25" shaft.

Otherwise I'd go with a 20" engine.
