Firt, welcome aboard

New to me bought for the trailer. Now I want to restore and use…
hope you have about $15-$20k and 3-5 years of free time

typical hull restorations since the prices went wild over a year ago are ranging from $3500-$5000
typical interior restorations are ranging from $2500-$4000
engine work is about $500-$5000
drive work is between $1000 and $3000
trailer work will be about $500
new gauges will be about $500-$800
new wiring will be between $200 and $1000

your boat had all the good parts stripped off it

Is there a Model Name for this hull ?
official information should be on the paperwork you received when you bought it. without paperwork its a yard planter

seriously, if you do not have title and Bill of Sale, its a yard planter in most states

I’ll need interior / Dash Instrument Cluster
you will need to build them yourself or pay someone to build them.

there is no aftermarket parts service for 50 year old boats. OEMs will keep parts around for only 3-5 years after a specific model sku for warranty. that is it.

Interiors were either made in-house or purchased from a local upholstery shop near the boat OEM. gauge panels were probably made by one of the many wiring houses or gauge panel wiring houses that catered to the marine industry. most of them over the past 45+ years have changed ownership about 2-3 times or went out of business

Some Motor Parts
I think I can make this a good runner…
internal parts are available for the long block
many of the external Ford specific parts are NLA (No Longer available)

I think I can make this a good runner…
you sir are a braver man than I am.

i would scrap the whole ford driveline and associated controls. i would source a very very late model Mercruiser 5.7 and Alpha 1-Gen 2 (2000 to 2010) this is going to be about half the cost of resurrecting the existing motor

i would buy new engine controls, control cables, new steering helm and cables. New controls are about $400, new cables about $100, new wiring harnesses a few hundred, new helm and cables about $300

I would build new interior at work after hours which would cost me about $1000 in materials (my labor is free). hiring an upholster would be about $3000

from experience you are looking at 6 months of full-time, non-stop work for one man, or 5+ years if you are married and have a job.

I intend to gut the inside down to the bilge…
Clean it all out … Leave Wiring Contols and whatever else is left….
Check for Dry-Rot and see how structurally sound ,Stringers, Deck and definitely the Transom..
If it’s in reasonable good shape …
Next Step is to assess the power plant & The Drive …!
If she’s check’s out to my Low standards…
I don’t need upholstery or carpet…
Captain & Mate’s Leaning post chairs..
Aluminum Diamond Plate on the Deck…
Engine Cover Corian countertop / Bait & Tackle Station…/ Overboard wash-out Hose…!
Room for Crab-pots…
I like bright and shiny…. But if I can’t wash it down with mild acid ….I don’t need it..
(I’am a Semi-Retired Trucker),that’s how we clean trucks,and they come out nice…
I started out only needing the EZ Loader Trailer for my 16’ Starcraft…
It’s trailer has cancer from being used around Coos Bay,Oregon…

We will see.
Stay tuned for the next exciting episode…!

You will be able to get internal parts for the 302, others may be a wild card
This is the parts breakdown
https://www.mercruiserparts.com/888-2-bbl-ford-302-v-8-1971-1977-31

Suggest looking real close and the stringers and transom. My guess is they need work and will cost plenty
Thx,
I have been around outboard’s since 10 years old…I’ll be 70 in April…
Always have had at least one boat in the side yard…
Thx for the website…
These old Motors are hard to find parts for…
But a Ford 302 /5.0L V8 is pretty much Bullet proof…
It’s the stuff bolted on to it, that falls apart…
New boats like pickup’s are ridiculously priced.
If this little project gets Scuttled,so be it ..
I’ll part it out ..
I still end up with a decent trailer…!
Catch you later

you really need to look at link #14 https://forums.iboats.com/threads/how-tos-and-other-great-information.283508/

a full gut will be all the way down to the fiberglass. there will not be anything left in the fiberglass shape. you should build a cradle. then you rebuild the stringers and bulkheads and transom, and then after foaming in, you drop the new floor and tab it in.

no such thing as dryrot, only rot that has dried.

the leaning post chairs will require you to tear the deck up to build adequate structure underneath, or after you install them, the first big bump you hit will tear them from the deck.

I would not put aluminum diamond plate in a boat. adds too much weight and gets way too hot in the boat.

you may want to price starboard. the cost went up nearly 100% over the past 5 months

you cant use it instead of core and fiberglass. it also expands 5X that of your boat in sunlight.

why not fiberglass, gel coat and non-skid

or fiberglass and Line-X XS650

Oh I didn’t know starboard expands…
I was going to rebuild the dash with it …
The gauges would fall thru the hole along with switches….

Looks like you have your work cut out for you with that one... I have that same boat and absolutely love it. Mine was taken care of though. Hopefully if you're up for it it'll ride again.

Just picked up a 1976 Beachcraft for a restoration project. I know nothing about it. Will be following this thread and keep you updated on some tips and tricks I may find along the way.
