I have a 1977 Merc 175 hp V6. My remote control is a 1985 model. Everything has worked well in the past. The boat sat for the past three years. I have two separate, or maybe related, problems. The down, or in, works. When I push the toggle up the solenoid clicks but the pump doesn't engage. Until today I could jump the two large terminals on the up solenoid and the pump would run and the motor would tilt all the way up. But today when I did that the trim pump runs but the motor stays in place. It doesn't go up. I removed both solenoids and tested them. They are both good. The pump obviously runs. The reservoir is full of oil. And the pump is wired as it should be. I have a shop manual and everything is configured properly. I think the problem pushing the toggle switch up is a bad wire in the ignition switch or the trim limit switch is bad. What I have no idea about is why when I jump the up terminals the pump runs but the motor doesn't move. Any ideas?
