1976 water pump replacement

i am having trouble getting lower unit off . took out 6 bolts and removed linkage rod beneath carb .feels like something else is still connected. is there or should i tap harder ?dont want to damage casing.

We need to know what the horsepower is. Some motors have a bolt underneath the trim tab and some have another (long bolt) down through the lower unit on the front side (boat side).

What linkage rod beneath carb? When you unscrew the 6 screws the lower unit should drop down about 1 inch. Within that inch you will see the shift rod with two standard brass screws. Un-screw one of them completely out and the unit should drop down and out completely.
