Nice merc! Was glad to see and hear that you were careful about revving the motor too much on muffs and in neutral.

Hey before you go out on the lake to run her, I would suggest a good soaking with Seafoam to decarb the ole smoker. I like to spray it into the carb throats until shes ready to die and turn the motor off, let sit 15 min and fire up again at least twice. You'll be amazed at how much goop will run out of the exhaust. On the 2 strokes I've done it even changes how they sound out the exhaust from a muffled sound to a crack that almost rings your ears.

Everything's looking great from here! :encouragement:

Good to see her come to life again. I agree with H2O a good dose of seafoam works wonders. Add a full can to your first tank of gas as well.

I picked up my OHV (off highway vehicle) registration today at the Chatfield Reservoir office. I have my temporary registration and it'll be 2 weeks until I get my stickers. In Colorado there is no such thing as a title for a boat, they just run the HIN to make sure it isn't stolen. Ownership is sort of a matter of fact thing to them. $35.25 for a year for boat access to state parks.

Actually, I don't think so... :cold: I have certain regulations to deal with first. I have to install the fuse block, battery disconnect, lighting and horn (+the fuel screen o-ring and female fuel line quick connect) before I can put it in the lake. If I can knock this out over the holiday weekend I might be able to splash it next week (I might have to take a day off when the kids are in school). I'm getting SOOOOO close I can taste it.:fish2:

What size anchor would be good for this boat? 5 lb or 10 lb or other? I suppose that is a loaded question, it depends on what I expect to use it for. Lake fishing, non current conditions. I just want something that will allow the boat to maintain positioning for an extended amount of time.

I hear Chrysler OB's and OMC I/O motors both make great boat anchors.....

From the iboats fluke anchor listings:
5lb Galvanized Slip Ring Anchor
  • Boat Size: 15 ft. - 17 ft. under normal conditions.
  • Galvanized anchors are corrosion resistant and provide good holding power all at an economical price.
  • Great second anchor or lunch hook.

6lb Galvanized Slip Ring Anchor
  • Boat Size: 17 ft. - 19 ft. under normal conditions.
  • Galvanized anchors are corrosion resistant and provide good holding power all at an economical price.
  • Great second anchor or lunch hook.
So I guess either would work for your 16ft aluminum boat. Light compared to a 16ft glasser, but will likely swing quicker on the anchor as the wind changes direction

More of the splash...

It was relatively short lived, but it's official. I have a youtube video of us backing down the ramp, but it is pretty unimpressive from the drivers seat. I'll post it when youtube finishes up.

Here is the youtube video of the drive down the ramp, I had my hands full so I didn't get any video out on the lake (but I will, I promise).

Thanks GA, It started right up and ran pretty good while I got out of the no wake zone, but when I tried to put the put the hammer down it died... I could plow water at about 5 knots but I couldn't get on plane to start. When I would push the throttle down it would die, I let it run slow for about 5 minutes and tried it again. This time it shot up on to plane and did about 20 or 25 (I'm guessing). I'm thinking the carbs just needed to be blown out with gas a for a bit? We ran around for a total of about 30 minutes. I ran it up one last time before heading to the boat ramp and I tried to run my GPS app with no success. It sure felt like I was hauling ***, but I'm sure it was in the 30 or 35 mph range... I am a novice for sure, I got a little nervous around the dock. I just need some practice.

Sweet, nothing like a wet hull!

I would have to say your fuel delivery is the problem, my Johnny did that and it was a weak fuel pump that had a diaphragm that was like leather.

I wouldn't be surprised in the least if it was bad. It seemed to die quite frequently and I had to run the lever up quite a bit to keep it from dying at idle. I struggled a bit yesterday, but I thought perhaps some of it was user error...

Congrats :applause:

Great job getting it out on the water. Hopefully just a few tweaks and she be running strong.

Yeah enough fuel isn't getting to the carbs so opening the throttle introduces way too much air into the mixture. A guy has to be careful doing that with 2 strokes, they don't like a super lean mix.It should be a super easy and inexpensive fix for a fuel pump kit.

I ordered a fuel pump kit yesterday, now that you mention it there sure wasn't much smoke on the test dunk. I didn't run it long, but I'm thinking lack of fuel sounds like the exact issue.
