why do omc tilt motors get shipped with nuts on the mounting bolts. Should they be removed before installation ?

The motor case is held together with those nuts. They need to be removed..... but the case will fall apart without them. So loosen them finger tight, have someone hang you upside down by your ankles and shove you into a space only a 3 year old would fit, hold case with both hands, remove nuts with 3rd hand, align hammer coupling w/plastic washers and install motor with 4th hand. I wish you luck. I have decent access to my motor and its still tricky.

Thanks , I already experienced the removal process and hope to stop bleeding soon. I'm now in search of a tall slender person for the install.

Strap a pillow to the top of your head. I found that yes, you do need to be able to stand on your head to swap the tilt motor
