Just needed to give everyone an update on the motor from hell. I believe I got it. I tested it today and the resultd were excellent!!! I am not able to open it up in open water as there is a no wake rule in effect on all lakes in my area du to high water levels. I did open it up while on the trailer to simulate a load on the motor and the motor kept wanting to push the boat over the front post of the trailer. This is very possitive since it wouldn't handle any kind of load in the past. Thanks for all the feedback.
There wer several issues with this motor.
1) the lower unit was binding up.
2) the switchbox was bad and I was only running on 3 cyl.
3) the trigger wires were badly coroded
4) replaced ALL the wires as the were in very bad shape.
5) Kill switch was wired incorrectly. So when I trieed to start it after rewiring it kept telling motor no to start. it had been wired to a wire that had been corroded off.
6) carb needed cleaning and adjustment as well as the idle speed.
7.) new gaskets in fuel pump and carbs.
This was not a simple job but I am so glad I stuck with it to the end. Taking the boat to an area of the state where there is not the high water issues that there is arround here next week. That will be the real test. Thanks again everyone who gave input on this issue.!
