1976 Johnson lower unit removal

Im currently helping a mate to try take the lower unit off his outboard so we can attempt to put a new imprellor/water pump kit in it, however we can't seem to even get the unit to drop more than a millimetre or two :facepalm: we have removed all four #66 as shown in diagram and the #68
we have taken the pin out from the shift linkage below carby..... and still no luck... One thing is the trim bolt #53 is rounded off and still in the unit however I don't think this bolt would hold the unit on or may it does? Is there anything else We have missed...
Any info would be greatly appreciated THANKS

I am confused, you are working on a 1965 engine, but the parts breakdown is for a 1976. What are we working on?

woops was sposed to be a 1976 johnson model 55EL76E my bad...

I believe there is another bolt under the trim tab that you are missing. It takes a 7/16" socket to get it off. I had the same issue the first time I tried to drop the LU on mine. You have to get that trim tab off in order to see the 7th bolt.

Thats what I was worried about... Ah looks like its off to the shop to try get the bolt removed...Thanks

updated heading thanks mate but sounds like I have found the trouble with Bolt under the trim tab, although I can't see it in the pic
