I have replaced the rectifier on this engine and also the coils. It has spark sometimes and then for no apparant reason the next time you go to crank it there is no fire. Would appreciate any help on how to check the power pack or stator etc. thanks

Hi. I thought I replied to your question, but I may not have posted correctly. To repeat, the rectifier has nothing to do with ignition, only charging the battery.First check to make sure your grounding wire is not grounding. I assume you have a remote control, check the key switch. Check all the motor connections from the stator to the powerpack to the coils for bad connections. The stators on these rarely fail. 99% of the time with weak, or no fire, or fire on only one cyl, it's a defective powerpack. How good of spark do you have when you have it? My 55 throws a wicked spark, it should jump atleast 1/4-7/16 gap. Most of the tests you can do with cheap VOM. some tests require a DVA adapter. There is a website called CDI electronics that is pretty helpfull. Once you get this motor running right, it will be pretty much bulletproof. Good luck to you sir.
