i have a 1976 2hp johnson, i did all sorts of work on it. replacing water impeller, fuel line, clean fuel system, etc. I had it running perfectly in a bucket. The next day when i took it out on the lake it was bogging down when i started and wouldnt excelrate. so i took it home took everything apart and saw that there was water inside of the cylinder. so my question is if this is some sort of gasket problem? i think the water cooling system might might be leaking somewere. thank you, Ryan

Had it been overheated, the reason for new impeller? That will certainly cause the head gasket and/or exhaust cover gasket to leak. It's not that big a deal to change them.

It had been over heated before, i replaced the impeller. it seemed to work fine for awile after dooing so. when i went out the next day it wouldnt start. the gaskets seem fine a little dry rotted tho. i was thinking about getting some gasket sealer from napa. would this fix my problem?

You mean gasket #9 is missing? That absolutely will allow water to squirt into the cylinder via the exhaust ports. Both the head gasket and exhaust cover plate must be replaced when they have been overheated. Don't dink around with them, get new ones. They should be available from your friendly Evinrude or Johnson dealer as far as I know. Or www.ishopmarine if you don't want to drive.
