I acquired a 76 evinrude 85hp..attempting to remove lower unit to install a water pump.
Removed shifter pin at top and removed 7 bolts on lower half..the shifter rod is loose and free of hang up and the lower unit wont budge...tried tapping with 2x4, wiggling, twisting..but to no avail...has been sitting in a pasture for 8 years but motor runs great.. suspecting splines rusted to motor coupling????
Any help will be a lot of help!!

the front stud that runs up ,, Usually is corroded and needs heat! I used a map gas torch on mine.. Saltwater and corrosion makes it tough.. Try this and let me know..

There should be 8 bolts, 3 on each side 1 under the trim tab and another 1 up under the middle of the lower unit .your missing a bolt. Get you a flashlight and look up under it and you will see the bolt way up in there.
