A friend and I just bought a 1976 Chrysler bass runner 16, with a 65hp Johnson, I believe. Now keep in mind I know almost nothing about boats. So thats where you guys come in, I need help.

I'm looking to rebuild this boat and really don't know where to start. I know the floor is shot, and the boat hasn't seen the water in ten years. The motor was rebuilt ten years and was never put in the water after that. Motor does turn by hand and to some advise i saw on here i pulled the plugs and used WD 40 on it. Seemed to sound good. We did take it out last weekend, using a trolling motor to see how much water it would take on, result turned out pretty good, not much water at all. I know all the wiring is bad, and all gas lines are rotted. The throttle box looks to be rigid up and has no key. Just want to know what to start and if someone had any advise for a poor sucker like me. Am i way over my head or is this going to be a pretty basic project? and is my checkbook going to be going under with the boat?

First off - it's a boat. I don't know what costs more to maintain, them or women. A close call either way.
I'd make sure the motor was purring before I started the boat structure and repair. You'll need to replace the impeller, plugs, fuel and associated lines. Also the carb is probably loaded with junk, I see a rebuild there.
Once you finish that little task and are satisfied on its reliability then tackle the rest.
Obviously the deck will need to be a priority. Thousands of posts here to help you through that - just use the search function.
Then there will be the stringers to more than likely replace along with the transom. You know - the list could go on and on.
Start with the motor first - see where that takes you.
Have fun !!! :D
