I bought a 115 hp 1976 , I an hoping it is a mixture problem but i read the most asked q's and i seem to be in the ball park. It says it can handle 50 to 1 and ive been doing about 40 to 1,,, My problem; it doesnt sustain throttle for more than a minute or two, it starts sputtering, if i hit the push button choke 3,4 times it will give my a burst. when i leave the launch it takes right off , within two minutes im struggling to keep it running.

When you squeeze the primer bulb, does it get firm and stay that way? Sounds like a fuel problem. When it starts to get rough, squeeze the primer and see if it smooths out, if it does, you could have a fuel pump or line leak somewhere. Otherwise, it could be a dirty carb, compression issue, or otherwise. Start with the easy stuff, eliminate potentials as you go.

Squeeze the bulb while at full throttle and the motor is sputtering. If it takes off again it's fuel.

Probably fuel pump diaphrams and check valves.

Else the carbs.

Agreed - and whatever it is - FIX it. Running lean will melt a piston for sure.

-W
